Gateway Battery Charging

CO01.0x and CO11.0x Gateways have an integrated Li-Ion linear charger and system power path management device. The charging device powers the system while simultaneously and independently charging the battery. This feature reduces the number of charge and discharge cycles on the battery. It also allows instant system turn-on even with a totally discharged or disconnected battery. The charging device features Dynamic Power Path Management (DPPM), which shares the source current between the system and battery charging, and automatically reduces the charging current if the system load increases. The power-path architecture also permits the battery to supplement the system current requirements if the adapter cannot deliver the peak system currents. The battery is charged in three phases: conditioning pre-charge, constant current fast charge (current regulation) and a constant voltage tapering (voltage regulation).
